OBJECTIVES

Students will be able to locate and describe the extent of the Spanish and Portuguese colonies in Latin America and explain how they organized and ruled their colonies.

Success criteria:

• (Today I will…) examine how in the 1500s Spain and Portugal established colonies and inflicted death and hardships on the natives inhabitants.
• (So that, I can...) understand how it affected the native inhabitants and set slavery into motion
• (I will know I understand it when…) I can understand and explain how social structures and slavery came in Latin America.

Success criteria:

• (Today I will…) access the examine the Columbian Exchange and how it affected cultures in North and South America and Europe.
• (So that, I can...) understand how it affected the world economy and ecosystems that I see today.
• (I will know I understand it when…) I can understand and explain the origins of what is around me came from and how it became what it is today

• (I will know I understand it when…) I can understand and explain the conquests of the Americas from both perspectives of the native people and Spanish explorers.
